Here’s the newest painting.  I even have the speed videos for it again.  You guys seemed to enjoy that last time.  I was also thinking of making a very about how you can transfer you traditional painting skills to digital painting.  If you guys would like that, let me know about it in the comments.

Ok.  Here’s the painting.  I had a lot of fun experimenting with layers in this one.

Talk to you soon!

Shh… This is only for you.

The first order of business is to tell about the winner for contest.  My mother ended up the winner.  Aren’t parents wonderful?  She chose this painting as her favorite and the one she wanted as the free art print.  She said in her post that this one reminded her of all the times I sat by the window to watch the rain.  It’s true I do love watching the rain, and I love a good thunderstorm.  So I hope you enjoy your print Mommy!  I love you!

I have one more thing to share with you.  You may have heard of the Patreon page I created, but I thought I’d give you a little tour so you know what you’d be getting.

If you’re not familiar with Patreon, the basic premise is that you give a certain amount (the lowest one is just $2!!!) each month, and for that contribution, you can get different rewards such as reference photos, photos of my layering process, 10% off any store item, monthly postcards with a new artwork of mine, full length painting videos, and wallpapers of my artwork that fit a standard computer screen.  You can choose the level you want and how much you pay.  So go check it out and comment below once you’ve done that!

I’m also close to being done with my current art series.  Who’s excited for that?  I know I am.  If you have thoughts on the pieces I’ve completed so far, leave that in the comments too.  I love hearing from you!

Hopefully you have a wonderful day and I’ll talk to you later!

The Butterfly Woman

I finally got the new cord to my tablet!  Yay!  I got to finish the painting I’ve been thinking about FOREVER since my cord broke.  Here it is.

Butterfly Woman (c)

Tada!  I really enjoyed making all the butterflies, especially playing with the different effects of the layers.  I even figured out how to do a screen capture.  So now you have a speed video.  You’re welcome!  If you want the full length version, you got to become a patron, but you can enjoy the speed video for free.

I also just got the postcards for my patrons.  If you want it, you got to go sign up.  And yes, I am trying to bribe you with postcards of my artwork, but hey, you get a new one each month.  Consider it a trade.

Talk to you later!

Print Contest!

I’ve decided that I love you guys so much that I’m starting a contest.  Whoo hoo!  There will be two prizes.  1) 8×10 print of one of my paintings (you choose the painting)  2) a hand signed postcard of a painting I will choose at random (2 people will receive this one)

Here are the rules.  You must complete each of these to qualify:

  1. On Facebook, Instagram (@shalevbasya), or Pinterest, share one of my paintings with an explanation of why you love it.
  2. Use the hashtag #shalevcontest in your shared post.
  3. Like my page on the social media platform that you chose to share my painting. (SECRET: If you’ve already like my page, you’ve already completed this step.)

I will select the winners at random.  You will have more chances to win, the more you share.  If you share on all three platforms, you will have 3 entries.  If you share more than once on the same platform, I will love you for it, but you will only receive one entry.  Just make sure to use the hashtag so that I can find your entries!  The contest ends next Friday October 19, 2018.

Good luck to you all!

Metal Panels

I’m sorry I haven’t done much lately. I’ve been distracted by many things and the cord that connects my laptop to my tablet broke.  So I’m waiting to replace that.  It’s very sad. However, I recently got a metal panel of one of my paintings and I thought I’d show you what that looks like.  I love how my paintings look on metal panels.  I also realize that many of you might not be familiar with this surface or how things look.  So I thought I’d show you.  Here are some photos of the painting on a hanging metal panel.

It’s a very smooth, highly reflective surface with a clear to silvery gloss.  It looks the best in a room the receives sunlight, but not in location that has direct sunlight.  Think of a well sunlit room, but not having the sun shine on the wall with the painting.  Isn’t it amazing?

If you’re interested in getting this piece, please check it out in my store.  I also offer payment plans if you need that.  Just message me to set that up.  Talk at you later!

Through the Eyes of Gratitude

When you look through the eyes of gratitude, the world becomes a magical and amazing place.  -Jennifer Gayle

What is it that you’re grateful for?  I’m sure there are many things.  For some people this question is harder than it is for others, but it’s still an important question.  It reminds us of what of beautiful and wonderful in our lives.  So I suggest a little exercise that we can do together.  List 5 things that you’re grateful for in the comments.  It can be anything.

Here’s mine:

  1. COFFEE:  I love coffee.  I live on coffee.  I have it every day, and it makes me happy.
  2. ART:  Art allows for expression of things that sometimes can’t be said.  It also allows you a look into the minds of those who created it, and humanity in general.
  3. THE HUMAN BRAIN:  The human brain is an amazing thing.  It allows us to accomplish mundane tasks, like cleaning and eating, while allowing us to contemplate abstract concepts like the nature of a human soul.
  4. MEDICAL TECHNOLOGY:  Because of medical advances, we’ve been able to eliminate many deadly diseases thanks to vaccines, and we have better explanations for someone having a seizure other than demonic possession.
  5. FARMING EQUIPMENT:  While there are disadvantages to modern farming technology, there are also many benefits and technology keeps advancing.  Modern farming equipment reduces the time spent on farming, reduces the the amount of water used, and reduces the overall impact on the ecosystem.

What are your 5?  Tell me about it in the comments.  Have a painting or drawing you want me to see?  Let me know on instagram @shalevbasya.  I love seeing your stuff.  I hope you have a wonderful day!

Sorry it’s been a little while, I’ve dealing with a sick household, but look!  There’s a new one.  I think my favorite layer is the glow layer.  I can create interesting effects with that ability.  This was definitely a very involved piece, but I have GLOWING BUTTERFLIES!  Hahaha!  Hopefully you enjoy it.

You can look for the PDF of all my layers and the reference photos on my Patreon page, and this is painting is available at my store.  Leave any thoughts and comments below.  I love hearing what other people see in art!

Butterfly Flame

16×20 digital painting

We’re up to number 4 in this series.  This has been fun to create and I’ve been starting to think of how I want to put everything together once I’ve gotten all the pieces out.  What ideas do you guys have?  I’ve been playing with the idea of putting a book together with all of these together along with my thoughts.  What do you think?  What would be something you’d like to have as a way of see all of these together?

As usual, you can buy this at my store, and then look for the reference photos and the PDF of the layers on my Patreon page.  I should have that up early next week!

The Frozen Heart

Frozen Heart
16×20 digital painting

I just got this one completed.  I’m not sure how many I’ll have in this series, but I’m enjoying creating these.  My favorite part of this are the rays of light coming from the heart.  As usual, put your thoughts and guesses in the comments and I’ll have the reference photos and layers up on my Patreon page soon!
