So I spent yesterday painting a 5×7 inktense painting of Megaman for my husband’s birthday. First, it was hard to do because of how small it was, but I wanted it that small so he could take it to work. It was difficult keeping myself out of the camera. My next problem was the paper, while the soft press I normally work with is great for how I paint, I didn’t allow for the smoothness and tiny detail that I wanted. If I was to do it over again, I would probably choose a hot press paper. Those of you who have followed me for any length of time know that this not something I typically paint so painting smooth shiny metal was an interesting experience. Overall I think it turned out pretty well.
Now for the issues of doing fan art. The general rule is that it’s ok as long as you’re not making money off it. You’re basically painting a copyrighted image that someone else created. Yes, you painted that one, but the original artist spent time creating the character. Some artists can be very protective of their work. Other brands will create a whole page for fan art of their work. So just be careful with it, and don’t sell any of it.
I’m not selling this one since it’s fan art and it’s for my husbands birthday, but you can enjoy the video of it. Sorry my hand takes up so much space. 🙂 The speed video is at the top and the full length video is available on my Patreon page.
